The papers of John Johns, Jr., contain letters from his father and mother in the 1840s and 1850s generally concerning religion and personal matters, and correspondence in the 1860s with various magazine and newspaper editors for whom Johns was writing, including Henry Rives Pollard of the Daily Richmond Examiner, Alfred Hudson Guernsey of Harper's Magazine, James Gordon Bennett of The (New York) Herald, and William Dallas Chesterman of the Richmond Dispatch.
